Sustainability
What is sustainability?
Alongside the phrase ' carbon footprint ' this word is used casually by environmentalists. Most of us do not know what it means, so here is the simple eco-dummy.com explanation:
Sustainable resources are those that can be used at a rate at which nature can replenish them naturally.
For example:
Trees are a sustainable resource....
We can use trees to make paper etc but we are able to plant new trees to replace the ones we use. Whether we are planting enough trees to keep up or not is another question.
Fossil fuels such as coal and oil are non-sustainable resources.
These took millions of years to make so we have limited quantities that are not going to be replenished. Soon they will be gone and that's it. This is why we need to find alternative sustainable energy sources. We nee to find another way to power our vehicles etc.
