Environment
When we think of the environment we tend to just think of wild animals, rainforests, and grassy plains but that's not all it is. Our own environment is where we live, it may be a city or it may be in the country.
The thing is that all of those different environments contribute to the environment as a whole. What we do in one environment may have negative effects on another environment. For example if we dump our waste into nearby rivers and lakes, the fish and animals that depend on that water for survival are affected.
Environmentalists are trying to help people understand that all of our actions have an effect, that we affect other people and animals even if that action doesn't affect us directly.
